Money has put Arnell Rayford's mother, Esther, exactly where she's always
wanted to be-comfortably ensconced in the 16-room Victorian mansion where her
own mother had worked as a housekeeper. Now she's running a thriving business
that's surely making the previous owner turn in her grave. For Esther, money
is the root of all happiness, and nothing and no one will stand in the way of
her making it-not even her only child, Arnell.
While some may call Esther's live-in employees prostitutes, Esther prefers to
call them ladies of charm-or tenants, if the police come sniffing around. Of
course, there are laws against pimping one's own underage daughter. It's a
devastating secret Arnell and Esther have kept for years-years that have
brought them far from the poverty they suffered after Arnell's father died.
But Esther's greed simply replaces one kind of suffering with another. No
amount of money can make up for the trauma and shame she's forced upon her
daughter. And despite Esther's promise that Arnell can quit after college, it
seems she's never quite free of her mother's grasp. Esther calls the jobs
"favors," but Arnell knows them for what they are: demands couched in
blackmail.
Esther's latest favor may well send Arnell over the edge-but she won't be
going alone. Because while Esther is holding her daughter's past over her
head, her own life is coming back to haunt her-a life where the lines between
love and hate, parent and child, sex, profit-and even murder-have been
irreparably, dangerously blurred. . .
REVIEWS
"This one charters new territory for Ms. Mallette. It is gritty, melodramatic,
and profane. Innuendo is out of place here; the action is in your face. .
.This is indeed a page turner, and each turn ignites a fiery reaction." -
Rawsistaz Reviewers
"Queen Esther . . . is the ultimate Mommie Dearest type. . . The Honey Well is
a page-turner that shows a fascinating side of the mother/daughter
relationship."
- Book-Remarks.com
"With a suspenseful plot that reads like a movie, The Honey Well demonstrates
how the perils of blackmail, trickery and deceit can overshadow the simple
rewards of life." - Upscale Magazine
"The Honey Well shows how important it is to think out of the box and find
topics that can be the genesis of a good story. This novel flows with imagery
and color."

"Gloria Mallette starts out with a bang in her prologue all the way to the
last page... " - Flavah Reviewers
