C.L.R. James was born in Trinidad in 1901. He arrived in England in 1932 having already written The Life of Captain Cipriani, later published in Nelson Lancashire (1932) under the title The Case for West Indian Self Government. Throughout his life he continued his active involvement in the struggles of colonial people for independence and in the struggles of black people in the New World for freedom. A History of Nego Revolt was published by the Independent Labour Party in Britain in 1938. In that same year, The Black Jacobins was published. |
